Indians to Pay More for ChatGPT Plus, Pro Plans – See Updated Rates

OpenAI has increased the prices of its ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscription plans in India. Users will now pay about 14% more compared to earlier.

Previously, ChatGPT’s paid plans were priced in US dollars. The Plus plan cost $20 (around ₹1,750) and the Pro plan cost $200 (around ₹17,500). But with the new India-specific pricing in rupees, the rates have gone up:

  • ChatGPT Plus: ₹1,999 per month
  • ChatGPT Pro: ₹19,900 per month

The price hike also applies to Team and Business plans, meaning Indian subscribers will now have to spend more for premium access.

This comes at a time when ChatGPT is already very popular in India. However, many developers and startup founders had earlier pointed out that the high cost of paid plans was a barrier to wider adoption. OpenAI was also rumored to be working on a cheaper “Go” plan, expected alongside GPT-5, but there’s still no update on that.

Meanwhile, competitors are trying to attract Indian users with free or bundled offers. Perplexity AI is giving Airtel users one year of free Pro access, while Google Gemini bundles its premium plan with extra benefits like cloud storage and YouTube Premium.

Globally, ChatGPT continues to dominate the AI market. According to Appfigures, the chatbot has generated over $2 billion in consumer spending since its launch in May 2023. In 2025 alone, the ChatGPT mobile app made $1.35 billion, nearly 673% more than the previous year, averaging $193 million per month.

With rising costs in India, it remains to be seen whether OpenAI’s AI assistant can maintain its strong adoption rate against rivals offering more affordable options.
