At its 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Jio officially launched Jio Frames, a new AI-powered smart glasses platform aimed at rivaling Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. The announcement was made by Akash Ambani, Non-Executive Director of Reliance, who emphasized that the device is a “wearable platform made for India,” with support for multiple Indian languages.
Jio Frames: India's AI Smart Glasses for the Future
Jio Frames are designed to offer hands-free functionality with advanced artificial intelligence integration. The smart eyewear enables users to capture HD photos, record videos, go live on social media, and listen to music or take calls via in-built open-ear speakers.
"Jio Frames is an AI-powered wearable platform, an ecosystem made for India with support for multiple Indian languages. It is a hands-free AI-powered companion designed for the way India lives, works, and plays," said Akash Ambani during the AGM.
What Can Jio Frames Do?
- HD Photo & Video Capture: Users can shoot high-quality media and instantly upload it to the Jio AI Cloud.
- Live Streaming: Go live on social platforms directly through the glasses.
- Open-Ear Audio: Take calls, attend meetings, and enjoy audio without earphones.
- AI Assistance: Get real-time answers and step-by-step help—like cooking instructions or book summaries—powered by Jio's proprietary AI model.
Jio AI Cloud and Jio Create Hub Integration
Reliance also introduced new updates to Jio AI Cloud, including:
- Natural Language Search in multiple Indian languages.
- AI-Powered Media Sorting: Photos of receipts are automatically sorted into bills, while documents like Aadhaar cards are categorized under identity folders.
The company also revealed Jio Create Hub, a tool allowing users to create reels, promo videos, and collages from simple photos. This feature targets small business owners, content creators, and families looking to share memories or market products quickly and professionally.
Reliance Targets AI Wearables Market
With Jio Frames, Reliance is entering the growing market of AI-enabled wearables, directly challenging Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. The product is uniquely positioned to serve the Indian demographic with localized language support, cloud integration, and AI-driven productivity tools.
The launch of Jio Frames marks Reliance's latest step in expanding its AI ecosystem, alongside Jio AI Cloud and creative tools like Jio Create Hub.
Final Thoughts
As wearable tech becomes more mainstream, Jio Frames could redefine smart eyewear in India, offering a powerful combination of technology, utility, and accessibility tailored to Indian users. The product’s AI capabilities and integration with Reliance’s growing digital ecosystem make it a significant competitor in the global smart glasses market.
