Grammarly has rolled out a major redesign with powerful AI writing tools aimed at helping students and professionals write better, faster, and more responsibly.
The new document-based interface, inspired by productivity startup Coda (which Grammarly acquired last year), introduces an AI assistant and a suite of smart tools including:
- AI Grader – evaluates writing against teacher guidelines or course materials
- Citation Finder – generates accurate citations from public sources
- Paraphraser – rewrites content with different tones and styles
- Plagiarism & AI Detection – checks for copied or AI-generated text
A Smarter, Easier Writing Experience
The redesigned platform uses a block-first layout, letting users add tables, columns, lists, headers, and rich text blocks to make documents more organized and interactive.
A new sidebar AI assistant can summarize content, answer questions, and suggest edits in real time. Grammarly has also added “Reader Reactions”, a feature that simulates different reader personas to give feedback tailored to your target audience.
Focus on Responsible AI Use
According to Grammarly’s VP of Enterprise Product, Luke Behnke, the AI detection tool is among the most accurate on the market. However, he clarified that it is not meant to punish students but to help them identify potential AI-generated content before submitting their work. For stricter enforcement, educators can use Grammarly’s authorship verification tool.
Grammarly says its goal is to teach students how to use AI responsibly while also giving professionals tools to boost productivity and ensure originality.
Expanding AI Capabilities
This update is part of Grammarly’s bigger plan to bring more AI agents into its platform. Recently, the company also acquired Superhuman, an email client, and earlier this year raised $1 billion from General Catalyst to fund acquisitions and expand its AI-driven writing tools.
With these updates, Grammarly is positioning itself as more than just a grammar checker — it’s becoming a full AI-powered writing platform for education and the workplace.
